“a great learning experience” – FM Münster’s Teaching Success with Photon Design
Students at the University FM Münster have been performing FDTD simulations for interactive teaching experiences with Photon Design’s teaching licences.
After their class applied OmniSim in their lessons, student Farideh Alaghehbandi has been taking investigation into electromagnetism into their own hands as they present their work on split rings for use in optical biosensors.
Farideh describes their ‘great learning experience’ eloquently by writing:
“The software made complex electromagnetic concepts more accessible and helped me translate theory into practical insights for my poster”.
Farideh’s Poster introducing their work and full testimonial can be found below.
We’re always glad to see Professors like Florian Vogelbacher who runs Farideh’s class going the extra mile to create memorable and engaging classes using Photon Design. We hope getting a taste for using world-class tools sets his class up to be well equipped for the photonics industry.
With a research licence, Photon Design offer 4 months of teaching licences to be used to create interactive learning experience like Farideh had the chance to experience.
Ask us about how to include software in your undergraduate/ postgraduate lectures and research projects.

Faridah's Full Comments
'Using OmniSim software as part of my project was a great learning experience. It enabled me to simulate and explore the optical response of split ring resonator-based biosensors in detail. I was able to visualize how structural parameters and changes in the refractive index affect the sensor’s performance, especially in terms of resonance shift and sensitivity. The software made complex electromagnetic concepts more accessible and helped me translate theory into practical insights for my poster. Overall, it was a very effective tool that supported both my understanding and presentation of the topic.'
